Flat Stanley enjoys Thanksgiving

Hello,

How did you spend Thanksgiving?  I spent Thanksgiving in Seattle with my new friends and my new friend Katie made me a great hat to celebrate and remember the first pilgrim Thanksgiving.

Do I look like a Pilgrim?

There was quite a bit of baking and cooking with everyone working together to make pies and food for our Thanksgiving feast.  I helped to make mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce.  It was a lot of fun to work with everyone in the kitchen and one of the best parts was getting to taste everything to make sure it was just right.

I sure would like to taste those pies.

 Mmmm...tastes just right.

We brought all of the things we made to our friend's house where they were cooking a turkey.  The turkey takes a long time to cook and has to be kept warm once it is finished.

 Is that a space turkey?

Once the turkey was ready and everyone had arrived, it was time to serve the turkey and enjoy our feast.

 It looks ready now.

One of the things that I liked best about Thanksgiving was getting to meet so many new friends and work together with everyone to share what we made with each other.  We all had a really great time sharing food and stories about Thanksgiving traditions with each other.

We all had a great time.

After dinner we were finally able to try out some of that really great looking apple pie.  It tasted even better than it looked.  The warm apples inside were my favorite part.

Finally... a taste of the pie!

After all the feasting, I was very full and not so flat anymore.  I needed to lay down and take a nap for a while.  I don't think I could eat like this every day but it sure was fun.

Ohhh...my belly is full.

I hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving with your family and friends and were thankful for all the wonderful things that you have in your lives.

Looking forward to leftover pie.

Flat Stanley makes a snow angel

Hello,

It has continued to snow here in Seattle and stay cold enough that the snow is not melting away. That means that there is snow around to play in.

 Check out all this snow.

That is kind of unusual and there is even a chance that today may set a new record for low temperatures.  One thing I learned that is the same about Seattle and Round Rock is that it doesn't snow here very often and when it does, not very many people go to work and kids don't have to go to school.   Since being here in Seattle with all of this snow is so different than being in Texas, I thought that I would try something that I can't do back there...making snow angels.

It is pretty simple and fun.  First I just flopped into the snow on my back.
I'm smiling but this is chilly.

Then once I was lying in the snow I just flapped my arms and legs back and forth to move the snow around under me.  I got some snow on my face while I was doing this and it started to melt. Brrrrr.

 Flap...flap...flap

Then, after all the flapping was over, I carefully got up so that I didn't disturb my angel and presto...Flat Stanley Snow Angel.

The snow is cold but it sure is fun.

I don't think this would be a good idea without my coat because it was verrry cold.  If you are going to try this, I think wearing a hat and mittens would be a good idea.  If you don't have any snow you might be able to try this at the beach with sand instead of snow.

Keep flapping friends.

Flat Stanley reports the weather

Hello,

Just a quick update from Seattle.  I looked outside my window today and guess what I saw...SNOW!!!  I put on my coat and went outside to check it out. I even tried to catch snowflakes on my tongue.

It is the first snowfall of the season and very pretty.

They missed my tongue but I caught some on my coat.

If we keep getting more snow I may need to get snowshoes.

Stay warm friends.

Flat Stanley goes to the beach

Hello,

Today I decided to go to the beach for a walk and to see what the beach is like in Seattle.  With so much water around the city, there are several parks with beaches right along the water.  I went to a park called Golden Gardens which is on the shores of Puget Sound.

It is more Gray than Golden

It is getting late in the year and there were not many other people around because it is getting colder.  Today it was very windy so it was especially chilly (glad I brought my coat with me).

Holding on to this rock kept me from blowing away.

There are lots of sailboats in Seattle and I saw lots of them out on the water.  With so much wind they were all moving very quickly.
The people on those sailboats must dress very warmly.

There are lots of different animals that live in the water here.  There are seals, sea lions, porpoises, whales and lots of birds.  Sometimes people come to this park and see them in the water or on the beach (the whales don't come onto the beach).  When the animals are on the beach, it is fun to see them but it is important to stay away from them so that they don't get scared or hurt.  There are signs on the beach to help people remember this.

 Look but don't touch

I didn't see any seals today, I only saw sea gulls.

It is going to be getting even colder here in the next few days and there may even be some snow.  The mountains around Seattle have already gotten several feet of snowfall.  I'm looking forward to getting to see the snow.  I don't get to see snow very often back in Texas so I am looking forward to it.

Don't blow away friends.

Flat Stanley changes colors and meets himself

Hello,

It is now fall in Seattle which means that the weather is getting cooler and the trees are changing colors.  I had a chance to explore some local neighborhoods to see the beautiful colors of the changing leaves.  There are lots of different sorts of trees here.  Some stay green all year long but some change colors and lose their leaves when the weather gets cooler.  When they change color they are really pretty.

Aren't these trees beautiful?

As fall comes and the weather gets cooler and it begins to rain a lot in Seattle., the trees change color but it also means that I need a coat to keep me warm and dry when I am outside.  Fortunately, I was able to find a flat coat here in Seattle since I didn't bring one with me from Texas.  (Traveling by mail is convenient but it isn't easy to bring luggage).  I wore my new coat today on my adventures so I have changed colors just like the trees.

Who's that in the tree?

How do you like my new coat?

It sure is nice to be warm and dry outside.

Seattle is a big city with lots of neighborhoods full of trees like the one's in my pictures but it also has a downtown area with lots of tall buildings.  Many of the neighborhoods are on large hills which means I can see really far.  I found a park on my walk with a great view of all the buildings downtown.  I even got to see the Seattle Space Needle which was built for the 1962 World's Fair.

I think it looks  like a Space Ship on a stick.

Seattle is surrounded by lots of water so there aren't roads to go everywhere that people want to go.  People use large ferries to take them across the water when the roads stop.  The ferries are really big boats that hold people and cars and trucks and bicycles.  They are like roads on the water.  In Seattle you can watch ferries come and go all day long helping people get where they want to go.

These ferries look small because they are far away.
They are full of people and cars and bicycles getting where they want to go.

Lots of people come to visit Seattle every year so it is common to meet other travelers of all types.  I met a fellow traveler today on my walk around Seattle and you know what?  He was flat too and his name was also Stanley!

Stanley, meet Stanley.

Staying warm and dry.

Flat Stanley finds some sane people in Seattle

Hello,

I was out exploring Seattle a few days before the recent elections and I discovered a large group of people gathered in downtown Seattle.  I thought that I spotted quite a few flat friends so I stopped by to check it out.  As it turns out, it was a rally to restore sanity, and while the people were friendly, they had brought lots of signs which I had mistaken for flat friends.  There were lots of people smiling and being friendly enjoying their signs and listening to music.  It started to rain and I suggested to the folks standing near me that maybe we should go indoors.  They told me that it was just a light drizzle and that people in Seattle just ignore the rain.  They also told me that it may rain quite a bit here so I may want to get a rain jacket.

For now, I sure am glad I am laminated.

Flat Stanley has arrived in Seattle

No lines and no lost luggage

Hello,

Flat Stanley here.  I wanted to let Patrick and his friends know that I have completed my travel from Round Rock, TX to arrive in Seattle, WA for an extended visit. Traveling by mail sure is a great way to travel.  I didn't have to wait in any long airport lines or check any luggage.   I was a bit tired after my long trip but after a nap and a meal (flat bread and flat soda) I was ready to begin exploring the city.  I sure am glad that Patrick let Uncle Alex know that those were my favorite snacks.  I am really looking forward to seeing the city and sharing my adventures.

That sure is a lot of bread maybe I should mention that I am a little fellow.

More of my adventures soon,
- Stanley
